Murakami beef is a brand of wagyu noted for its fine marbling and tenderness.
Meat designated as Murakami beef must come from cattle raised in Murakami or in the neighboring municipality of Tainai and be graded 4 or 5 on Japan’s five-tier quality grading scale. There are 16 farms in the area with a total of around 700 head of cattle, which are fed high-quality rice straw and hay. Murakami beef can be enjoyed in dishes such as sukiyaki, shabu-shabu, and yakiniku barbecue.
